This is a message from the Classics Gaming Collaborative’s Ethan Divon.
Hey everyone!
Exciting news: Paizomen is pairing with the Classics Gaming Collaborative’s Apollodorus Project. The Apollodorus Project is a database which seeks to collect games that utilize ancient ideas with the goal of making these games more accessible for educators. Where Paizomen collects concrete data, Apollodorus focuses on the elements which are pulled directly from the ancient world and supplements this data with resources and strategies for including these games into a classroom.
As we all know, games — and video games especially — have the unique ability to engage players by placing them directly into the world of another. As such, games, besides being a key zeitgeist for modern culture, also have a distinctive ability to engage students with modern takes on ancient material. Furthermore, many students are already engaging with this form of media, thus allowing for a simple way for students who may already be interacting with the classical world without realizing it to discover that they are interested in the classical world. In essence, Paizomen and Apollodorus want to make the process of integrating games into the classroom easier, so that the speciality of games can be utilized to teach by all, even those who are less familiar with gaming.
Looking forward to where this collaboration will lead!
Thanks,
Ethan Divon
